Who We Are

Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS)

SSS' primary mission is to support programs throughout the world in fighting the battle against HIV/AIDS and other diseases. Working behind the scenes, we help our clients carry out their research missions, enhance their communications, shape health care policy, and promote and enhance knowledge about public health.

The Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI)

VBI, a Commonwealth of Virginia shared resource established at Virginia Tech in July 2000, serves as a flagship bioinformatics research institute wedding cutting-edge biological research with state-of-the-art computer science.

Protein Information Resource (PIR), Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC)

PIR is an integrated public bioinformatics resource that supports genomic and proteomic research, and is a member of UniProt -- Universal Protein Resource -- the world's most comprehensive catalog of information on proteins.

To ensure standardization and the potential for sharing raw and processed proteomics information among the various PRC sites, other institutions, and the public, the Administrative Center has established an Interoperability Working Group (IWG) comprised of Administrative Center database administrators, scientists, and representatives from each PRC site. This group will initiate the development of common data exchange and storage formats.

As part of NIAID's Proteomics Research Program, the Administrative Center is establishing a Scientific Working Group (SWG) . This working group will recommend changes, evaluate scientific progress, and advise the Administrative Center and the Research Centers in all aspects of the operations and future directions, including policies and practices for data, reagent, and technology sharing among the sites and with the broader research community. These recommendations shall be based on the state of proteomics technological and research advances, including those contributed by the Proteomics Research Program sites.
